Festive Season?

Now I think I've heard just about everything. Just as I thought we were making some headway by dumping the "Happy Holiday" replacement for Merry Christmas, I get a brochure in the mail asking me for money to help less fortunate people at this time of year.

Of course my heartstrings were tugged as I read the "testimonials" of families who were displaced due to the hurricanes. I was starting to reach for my wallet when I got to the end of the brochure. There, in big bold blue letters, was the greeting, "Happy Festive Season".

My wallet went back. My hand tossed the literature in the trash. My feet took me to the local Wal-Mart which had just allowed the Salvation Army to come back. I pulled some cash from my wallet and dropped it in the bucket.

It's not that I am going to bypass needy people due to terminologies, but I refuse to support a cause that begs for my money at Christmas time and refuses even to acknowledge that it IS Christmas time.

Happy Festive Season? What the heck is that? I wonder how much money they lost by using that term. Maybe next year they'll wise up and realize that political correctness just doesn't cut it at this time of year. This Christmas time of year. This Merry Christmas time of year.
