10 Ways To Preserve

I just read an online article that really got me thinking. It was titled "10 ways to preserve baby's first Christmas". (It has since been removed from the original site but there was no explanation).

In itself it seems a decent attempt at suggesting ways to preserve those very first Christmas activities for a child: Like take plenty of photographs, and write a letter to the child for future reading. But what got me wondering was why I haven't been able to find anything like "10 ways to preserve Christmas" for anybody else? Why just the baby? And why just that one Christmas day? Isn't every Christmas worth preserving?

I wonder. Has Christmas become just another fun day for kids? Are adults too "grown up" to celebrate the joys of Christmas? Is Christmas something we all just kind of grow out of as we get older? I hope not.

As for me, and my family, we will celebrate Christmas every year. And, in fact, we actually try to celebrate the meaning of Christmas on a daily basis. What is the meaning of Christmas? First, it's celebrating the excitement of the birth of Christ. That should go without saying. But it also includes giving gifts to others. Yes, every day. Not portable DVD players or the latest Super Hero figure, but gifts of caring, and helping, and guidance, and instruction, and food, and clothing, and shelter, and whatever else is needed to insure the health, happiness and comfort of another human being. Sometimes that means just talking. Or better yet, listening.

I bet that if you really think about it you could come up with a whole lot more than just "10 ways to preserve Christmas". But that would be a great start wouldn't it?
